1. Music for its own sake - Brett Pimentel

Click here to visit the full post.

This blog posting is a commentary on the value of music as an independent academic pursuit.  It is written in response to a NY Times opinion piece that supported music training because of its benefits in other areas like mathematics and teamwork.  While Mr. Pimentel is a professional musician, and clearly supports music education, he contests that music has a far greater value than just being something that enhances other "real world" skills.  He feels that music is worthy of study on its own merits, and urges people to push this agenda with their local schools.

2. Cleaning Your Instrument - MusicTeachersHelper

Click here for the full post.

This blog posting includes a list of links pointing readers in the right direction to find resources about cleaning a variety of musical instruments.  While the list is not all-inclusive, it includes links for many instruments commonly used in classrooms.  These include piano, guitar, violin, most brass instruments, flute, clarinet, and percussion.  If you're interested in learning or reviewing cleaning techniques, the resources here are very good.

  1. Bret Pimentel was getting his doctorate at UGA when I was getting my undergrad! He was quite 'famous'. He assisted with my woodwinds methods class on occasion. It's neat that you posted one of his articles!
